After spending countless hours playing games like Wolfenstein, Doom, Halflife, and of course the Resident Evils, every now and then I have crazy 'survival horror' nightmares where I'm trying to escape from infested/overrun cities. Does this happen to anyone else?

Re: Video Game Zombies
Sun, November 20, 2005 - 8:05 PMJust about all the time.
I saw DOTD when I was 8 years old, that was in 1974, eeek I'm an old guy.
It changed my profoundly, and I've been trying to find a cathartic outlet for a while. The resident evil games are good, but too "monstery" for my taste. I like traditional zombies, human, shambling, slow. Not genetically modified giant spider zombies, just not "believable."
I just ordered a game from amazon called "Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green", it had mixed reviews, we'll see. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Sun, November 20, 2005 - 10:24 PMTrue, spider zombies are more sci-fi than true zombie horror, but I do like the overall tone of that series, especially RE 4, although that's game has no zombies atoll... Anyway, I definately know what you mean about looking for the old cathartic release. Seeing zombies killed is a true visceral release. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 7:37 AMI'm a huge Resident Evil fan. I prefer them to most zombie games. I must admit, I'm very curious about the Land of the Dead game. The movie, recently released on DVD, was pretty much the goriest film I've ever seen. I wonder if the game will hold up. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 8:28 AMThat's the great thing about the Zombie genre; gore and guts and scares for those of us who want a splatter type experience, and slow creeping doom, for those of us who want the psychological horror experience! -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 12:45 PMroad to fiddlers green isnt too bad, especially for the price.
Stubbs looks like fun as well, but its from the zombies perspective.
I think its only natural to have those kinds of dreams after you spend alot of time watching zombie movies or playing the games, or thinking about zombies in general. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Mon, November 21, 2005 - 3:43 PMWhen not playing zombie video games or watching related horror movies, I like to plan out escape routes for when the infestation begins! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Video Game Zombies
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 11:38 AMthats the reason zombie squad was created. If you are prepared to survive zombies, you can survive just about anything else. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 1:49 PMThat's right. The video games are zombie killing simulators, which I expect will help tremendously when I actually have to be making those headshots. I will pwn zombies! -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 9:46 PMHeh heh. I fucking freak out playing scary games- I'm usually such a wreck it's like work. I've embarassed myself many times by screaming out loud, jumping, dropping the controller, you name it. Another good scary series is Silent Hill- although not zombie related, it's definately disturbing. -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Tue, November 22, 2005 - 10:31 PMsilent hill had got to be the best horror gaming scenario i've seen. they did an amazing job building up the tension and creep out factor. -

Wed, November 23, 2005 - 12:33 AMHell yeah! I especially liked SH2. The story to that one was a trip. The monsters are so bizarre, it really stuck with me for a long time... Pyramid Head *shudder* -

Re: Video Game Zombies
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 3:27 PManyone try out Stubbs the Zombie game? I played the demo of Land of the Dead, not to bad.
And i've had my share of zombie dreams, where I wake thinking they out there and can't look outside the window. But my last one we used the zombies as a power source, they would push this wheel around trying to get to us and it was used for power "undead manpower" -
